Lesson Plan #2 - Charo Loa
Subject: Spanish Vocabulary.
Dates: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Class: Middle School 6th grade.
Student ages: 12-14 years old
Time: 11:10 am to 12:00 pm (50min.)
Topic: Spanish vocabulary “The Family Members”
Goals:
Students will understand the use of family member vocabulary in Spanish.
Objectives
Student will :
1. Learn how to introduce their family to the class.
2. Learn new family member vocabulary in Spanish.
3. Describe their families.
4. Present to the class pictures or drawing of a families. They will identify each family member for example: This is my brother.
The Family Members
Los abuelos: grandparents Los padres:parents
La abuela: grandmother La madre: mother
El abuelo: grandfather El padre: father
Los tios: aunts and uncles La hermana: sister
La tia: aunt El hermano: brother
El tio: uncle La/ El prima (o): cousin
Material / Equipment:
1. Family pictures or drawing from home that show every member of the household.
2.Textbook chapter 2 “Punto de Partida” The family member.
3.Handout #1 the family member.
4.YouTube video Los Miembros de la Familia.
Procedures:
Warm up: write the family member vocabulary in the whiteboard before the class starts.
1. Before they come to class, students have to read chapter 2 in the textbook Puntos de Partida.
2. Demonstrates the new vocabulary in Spanish and English (10 min.).
a. Give family member handout sheet for students to keep in their notebooks.
b. Show and give examples on how to introduce family members, I will start with my own family.
c. Ask if they have any questions.
3. Students will practice in a group of four describing their families to each other. In each group students will share his/her family pictures and tell about the members. The teacher will go around to check if they are practice (10min.)
4. Each student will have a large piece of paper on which they will glue his/her family picture (10 min.).
a. Students will practice writing sentences in Spanish on the bottom of the page. For example this is my family; this is my brother Pedro
5. Students will introduce in Spanish their families to the class and talk about each member of their family such as this is my brother Pedro; he works at the store.… (20 min.)
6. Give out worksheet for homework.
Evaluation
1. Grade assignment in class. Check comprehension by asking students to who is who. For example: who is this woman?
2. Homework will be to complete the fill-in-the-blank handout.
3. On the next three days give a Spanish vocabulary quiz on the family members.
Extra class work
1.Watch YouTube video on the family members and practice Spanish at home for example, calling your dad (papa), brother (hermano)
Artistic modality and technology innovation:
This lesson uses the artistic modality and technology innovation. With artistic modality students share pictures or drawings of their families. The inclusion of art is a good resource for interaction as well as practicing the target language. In addition, art is motivating for students. It provides a change of pace, can stimulate, and develop creativity and critical thinking skills. This interaction will allow students to use vocabulary in familiar ways
because they will describe each member of their family by looking at pictures or drawings ex. She is my mother/Ella es mi madre. With technology innovation students will use the web and go to www.youtube.comat home or at the public library to watch the video “Los Miembros de la Familia”.Technology will support the learning process because students will be able to listen and recognize the native pronunciation other than the teacher. In addition access to technology will stimulate mental activity of students and support them in performing authentic tasks.
